Haiti Images

Hey people, i just stumbled upon these negatives and scanned them. This is a trip i took to Haiti in winter of 2005/06. I was able to gain full access to the Dr.Schweitzer Hospital in Deschapelle Haiti (HAS), which is more or less 3 hours north east of Port au prince. While i was there i documented my good friend Yen Tang who is a physician in pediatrics. All these images were shot with film (iso/asa) ranging from 100-3200 speed hence the grain. These particular set of images i have not released to anyone until now…..i have another set of images that were published some time ago which i will publish in do time for y’all to see and enjoy.
A young women waiting for her ill brother to get a medical exam by Dr. Tang
Lifeless slumber in a crib full of knitted comfort.
Yen files his diagnosis and findings daily so he can be in sync with his staff on patient care.
Dr. Tang initial meeting place with patients takes place at a outdoors area. A patient rest calmly for his turn.
Here Dr. Tang is going over charts with Haitian resident nurses. Below them two pre-mature infants are fed sugar through IV’s.
A mother awaits treatment for her child. Typically non sick family members take the journey to the hospital due to the fact they are well fed on entry Vs. staying at home until loved ones return from treatment.
This is Holanda Herold, her Mom and Father are deceased from HIV which they have passed unto her in conjunction with having tuberculosis. During my stay i noticed Dr. Tang and Holanda had an interesting connection, for Dr. Tang it was her spirit of happiness despite her condition. For Holanda i noticed that she would find enough strength to conjure up the most beautiful smiles when she saw Dr. Tang. (a year or two after this image Holanda died, mainly due to lack of resources to return to the hospital for treatment)
